Marking time, weaving place.
Brass gallery is proud to present new work by Hannah Leighton-Boyce. This sampler exhibition presents works currently in development which explore the human relationship with Time.
Hannah's work is concerned with the delineation experiences or memory through the impact of the mark, trace and residue of the making process.
Her recent work has been informed by her experiences throughout the residency at Ackworth School where she began to reflect on and explore a deeper understanding of our experience of time and place. Through walking the school boundaries, retracing footsteps, gathering individual and collective stories she has explored the marks, memories and traces of thought and movement as the creation of signatures, writing and drawing within place.
She has begun to learn and explore spinning, darning and embroidery connected to the site's history as a Foundling hospital and Quaker School. The resulting samplers bring together the different strands of her research through drawing, writing and embroidery, weaving together memories, stories and experiences to create a sense of place.
