Katherine Johnson: Little Blighters
22nd May 2009 - 19th June 2009
Brass Gallery is proud to present the cut paper work and photography of Katherine Johnson in her first solo exhibition 'Little Blighters'.
Her delicate excisions from the pages of books are augmented by atmospheric photography, bringing to life the sense of magic and escapism so many of us find within the pages of fictional literature.
Katherine Johnson in her own words:
"I am fascinated by the ability of a book to transport the reader to another world. My recent work has employed photography, alongside the manipulation of the book through simple craft methods, to capture the moment where the stories start to spill out of their pages, and blur the line between fantasy and reality.
"The camera helps to amplify and isolate the delicate balance between the idea of escape and escapism- how the characters literally springing off the page really resonates with the experience we have of losing ourselves in stories when we are gripped by a good book."
