The Brief
Specialist tea company Mallard tasked us with designing the marketing collateral for its new range of tea products and tea rooms. They wanted a brand identity that would not only establish them as the UK's pre-eminent premium tea brand, but which would also be noticed across different industries and position them as innovative with real ambition.
The Approach
The team invested time and effort into understanding Mallard's business and strategy. This insight was then given our graphic design and creative treatment to deliver exactly the right look and feel for the brand.
We developed a 'mix and match' design using the teapot in its many different forms as an icon for the brand. The team developed a flexible and colourful identity based around beautiful patterns and simplistic design, which could be implemented easily across everything from menus and cups to print collateral and packaging.
Quirky, honest and unmistakably British, the eclectic feel of the logo and how it's applied meant it could be carried through to the interior of the tea rooms. With thrown-together furniture, mismatched crockery and clashing fabrics, the design and identity brought something really fresh to every table.
The Results
Mallard were so impressed with our design and insight into its business that the identity we created was not only used across the marketing collateral, but to shape the business proposition for the brand as well.
The packaging design was well received by the client, and has attracted attention within the design industry both in the UK and the USA. Our design work has featured in numerous design publications, influential design blogs 'Lovely Package' and 'The Dieline', and received multiple awards and nominations.
